At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Reports to Knox that the men at West Point are restless, unhappy and having a difficult time. They are having trouble obtaining subsistence since "the Contractors will not trust them," and are "badly cloathed, many without blankets, they have not [been] shewn what they are intitled to ... " Also asks Knox for advice on how to dispense duties for the brevet officers.
