At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Provision return for rations issued to the superitendant of the Masons; employed by the engineers department from 13-16 July. A total of 6 rations were issued over the four days for one person. Countersigned by Joseph Cheesman, superintendant. Docket signed by a Jacob Wight that contractors delivered the rations.
