At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Informs Knox that he expects Knox and General Huntington for dinner as they will be in the area for a Board of General Officers meeting. States the he "will try to get you as good a Dinner as I can, but you must not expect the delicacies with which you abound at West-Point..." Noted as written at Ellisons.
