At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Writes that he would like Knox to inform him whom he should consult "for Provisions & Hospitals Stores after the 15th as I have received no Official Direction on the Subject." Explains that Mr. Sands "has ordered his issuers to continue their duty," and that Mr. Wadsworth will furnish him with everything he needs.
