Written at sea and various ports. Full title: "Notes on a voyage to the East Indies. U. S. Steamer 'Powhatan' during the years 1857, 8, 9, & 60, Continued from Vol. 1st 29th Feby." Tan calf spine and corners, green marbled boards, rose-coloured "sponge effect" end papers. "These notes were made generally around 8 o'clock pm."
Gives detailed description of the voyage home from Asia, including stops at: Honolulu, where he met King Kamehameha IV; Mare Island California; San Francisco, California; Panama; Valparaiso, Chile; around Cape Horn, Rio de Janeiro; and finally home to the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Dated March 1, 1860 to 8 August 1860.
