Countersigned by John Lawrence, the Treasurer of Connecticut. Receipt requesting Lawrence to pay Captain Eliphalet Bulkley 1800 pounds, nine shillings, and nine pence for the balance due his company in Colonel Erartus Woolcott's regiment. Also requests payment for the service of two doctors, Augustus Mather, and John Watrow. States that all should be charged to the State. On verso there are two notes, both dated 18 January 1777, signed by Eliphalet Bulkley stating that he received 150 pounds, the other signed note stating he received 862 pounds, 4 shillings. Below docket is a signed note that says J. Treadwell audited the payment on 1 September 1777. Ellsworth was a member of Pay-table committee, which was responsible for paying Connecticut's Revolutionary bills. He joined the Continental Congress in 1778.
