Written by a member of the Jones family to Confederate Brigadier General and Quartermaster General Lawson. Says his brother-in-law Mr. Charles Moncine was expelled from his home near Rapidan Station, Culpepper County, Virginia and has recently rented a plantation in Cumberland County, Virginia. He cannot acquire hay to feed his horses and wants to know if he can exchange timothy grass for fodder with the quartermaster's department. Also says a Mrs. Thornton of Lexington, Kentucky wants to exchange 3500 pounds of fodder for a like amount of grass. Hopes the quartermaster's office can facilitate all these trades between Moncine, Thornton, and the government. Claims that Moncine has not overcharged the government in the past and is a gentleman deserving of good treatment. Written on letterhead of the President's Office of the Richmond, Frederick & Potomac R. R. Co. Paper has a watermark.
