At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Signed by John Wood as clerk of the New York Supreme Court. With clerical signatures of New York Supreme Court Justice John A. Lott and Murray's attorneys Vail & Sedgwick as witnesses. Includes printed "Directions for Executing the Commission" and "Instructions to Commissioners." Page 100, partially printed, includes instructions to return the executed commission by mail to Vail and Sedgwick and a note, possibly signed by Olin, that "The execution of this commission appears in certain schedules hereunto annexed."
