At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Pro-Democrat pamphlet attacking John Frémont. Lists fifteen charges against the Republican party led by Frémont. "Let every lover of his country remember that during the present Congress...the Republican (Frémont) party have voted to violate the most solemn treaties of the United States..." Includes official records to support the charges, namely a report on the territory of Kansas by Stephen Douglas. No date listed, but dated as 1856 from David M. Lesser, Fine Antiquarian Books LLC. Lacks separate titlepage as issued. Previously had a sewn binding as there are holes on the left side for needle and thread.
