A print of a photograph of men standing outisde of a two story building. Most of the civilian men standing outside the white two-story building are probably workers employed by the government. One sign on the roof and another on the porch read: "Office of Gov't Repair Shops." Another adjoining building in the background is also a government shop and has its own sign mounted on its roof. Washington became a major center for army services during the war. Numerous government repair shops [some massive in size] employing hundreds of skilled and unskilled workers were established to keep the armies running. Inscription on verso: "Gardner XXIX 923 ."
