At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Probably from a cousin in Keeseville. Signature on letter appears to be Elvira. Mentions a visit from Angie's brother George. Discusses Josiah's possible discharge, although his whereabouts are unknown. Speculates he may be in Washington. Encourages Angie to "...try and teach with your other instruction, the little ones the fear of God."
