At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

States that he has not heard anything since giving his opinion as Attorney General about the government purchase of land from the Chirigni Improvement Co. Expresses concern about the value of the property and the soundness of the title. Remarks that the government of New Granada has made some moves against this company but does not know whether or not this indicates hostility on their part.
