At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Cosigned by Robert Smith. Bladen was convicted of assault and battery. He was sentenced to 1 month imprisonment and to pay a $100 fine and court costs. Pardoned after serving out his prison sentence because he was unable to pay the resulting fine and the costs for prosecution.
