At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Articles in this publication are related to anti-gay policies passed in Cuba; letters from gay prisoners at Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla who were forming a chapter of the Gay Liberation Front; boycotting Brown & Dehli Bookstore due to discrimination against a gay employee; and programming for Gay Pride Week from June 18-27, 1971.
