At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Includes an article entitled "Grapes of Joy" an article on war workers returning home with large sums of money saved over the last four years of work. The main portion of the clipping is dedicated to an article entitled "This for GI Joe" concerning veterans rights and benefits for those with honorable discharges. The article includes continuing pay, returning to the workforce, both old and new jobs, disability issues, readjustment, education, loans, medical care, pensions, insurance, dependent benefits and legal exemptions. It also mentions that depending on the state there may be more benefits available at the state level. The article is marked with check marks and x marks indicating what should be read by Jean.
