At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One undated sheet of facts regarding segregation in Boston. Facts include population of African-Americans in Massachusetts. Sheet covers segregated housing information (i.e., pricing, landlords). Concludes that Northern segregation is just as bad as Southern segregation, "The guild of the North is just as great as that of the South and goes back to the trading ships from the North which brought the slaves here."
