At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Catherine updates her brother on what is going on at home. She mentions that their mother is on a trip to New York with Capt. Church. She also mentions that their father had another flare up of Gout, and the ulcer on his knee has been active. She sends him her love and their father asks for her to send his as well.
