At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

A photograph of the pinning ceremony at Fort Dix. Robert L. Stone is the solider on the far right. James Stone is the second from the left.

Brigadier General Madison Pearson signed the photo "with warmest personal regards and in sincere appreciation for your loyal service.

"Letters in a Box" notes that the photo is of "pinning ceremony at Fort Dix, signed by Brigadier General Madison Pearson. Bob worked as an Aide-de-Camp for the General after the war ended. Bob's brother, Jimmy Stone, is second from the left [of photo]."
