At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Addressed to "Dad." He writes that it was "swell to talk with you and Ken" and encloses his new schedule starting at 1:30AM with the reveille until "taps and to bed" at 6:00PM. They have this schedule so they can have all of their bombs dropped in time for graduation. Warns that they may not hear from him this week due to the schedule.

The letter is written on "Army Air Forces, Bombardier School, Childress, Texas," letterhead and is dated "Sunday." "Letters in a Box" notes that the date is October 11, 1943.
