At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

The results of Eugene W. Williams' United States Armed Forces Institute Tests of General Educational Development, college level. First page lists William's results in four tests, Correctness & Effectiveness of Expression, Interpretation of Reading Materials in the Social Studies, Interpretation of Reading Material in the Natural Sciences, and Interpretation of Literary Materials. The first column lists his score, the second what percentile he placed in. The back contains an explanation of the nature of the tests and how to interpret the results.
