At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Letter to Cordelia Williams from Ludo C. Pickett, the Director of Retirement Claims at the Railroad Retirement Board. Pickett says he has enclosed application forms that Williams must complete and return. The first page is missing. This may be the second page of another letter Cordelia Williams recieved from the Railroad Retirement Board (see GLC09587.039).
