At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Augsberger thanks Ardena for sending him the Shortes address. He writes that "When I go to London I am going to try and if I can, see Marion + fam." He says that the weather here is very good and will be glad when summer comes. He tells Ardena that "I would write more but I am on C.Q.D." He sends his love and signs off.
