At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Sylvia reports that Ben brought her a Whitman's Sampler, she admits he is a nice guy. Reports on friends and her Mom and Dad and brother Alvin. Her Dad is upset that Alvin may have to go into combat. Asks Moe to write her Dad. Heard of two train wreaks in Philadelphia and Chicago, which makes her nervous that something like that would happen if he gets a furlough.
