At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Sylvia says she rode in to work with Sid and one of his neighbors who boasted about a car trip to Grossinger's using Black Market gasoline. Discussed with others how well he did in his exams, and was still not chosen. Says there is either an age limit [Moe is about 34 at this time] or a quota for Jews.
Says the Russians learned a lot, at great cost, from the Germans, and that the Germans just cracked under the pressure and lack of material.
