Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Written at 11:00 PM at home. Sylvia went shopping for him for shoe polish and thimbles to use for his trigger finger. Tried to get him Halva and was told it wasn't "in season." She talks about old letters that she has found that he wrote, one from 1926. Also that she dreams of him at Oregon State [University] in training.
