Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Reprints three congressional acts passed at the second session held 5 November 1792. The acts concern the collection of duties on goods and merchandise, the payment of a loan made of the Bank of the United States, and extending the time for receiving on loan a part of the domestic debt. Other news includes local news, news from Great Britain and other European countries, ship arrivals, postings, and advertisements.
