Seeking to resolve grievances about who has the right to command troops in Georgia. He both complains about certain actions by Brownson and begs his forgiveness for a misundertanding in which Brownson apparently took offense. In part: "...I hope to convince you that you did me an injustice in harboring a suspicion....With respecting to your appointment as Surveyor I am afraid I have done you an injury without intending it..."
