At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Writes to a friend about how news of the armistice was recieved in camp. Discusses coming home and his Thanksgiving. Wishes he could be home with Hazel for Christmas and jokes that if he is lucky, he will be home in time for New Years' 1920! Promises to tell her all his stories about the war when he returns.
