At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Eisenhower's schedule for the day showing an appointment at 8 AM to accept some photos of Abraham Lincoln from Vernon Smith, a worker in the Social Room. Smith's grandfather, who was a personal friend of Lincoln, took the photos. Also shows an 8:30 appointment with the Secretary of the Treasury, Hon. Sherman Adams, and Hon. Bryce Harlow and a 10AM Cabinet meeting. Lists a 1:30 PM departure for Camp David. Accompanies GLC07094.01.
