Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

This is a proclamation stating that any citizen arrested for their political opinions on the Civil War within the State of Missouri are to be released as per an agreement between Major General Price, and Major General Freemont. It also states that there will be no more arrests or threats as a result of political opinions from citizens and that "the war now progressing shall be exclusively confined to armies in the field"
