At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Pennsylvania governor George Thomas's message to the assembly discussing information from Governor George Clinton of New York regarding the Treaty of Montreal, an alliance between the French governor of Canada and the United Nations of Indians. Includes assembly's reply signed by Speaker John Kinsey. Section reserved for announcing the indentured servitude of residents, the return of runaway slaves, and departing ships.
