At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Certifies the sale of one quarter of a league of land "on the Trinity River near Cashatta Village" from Richardson to Edward Hall of Houston, Texas, for $1,000. The land had been granted to Richardson on 20 November 1835. Witnessed by George R. Robertson. An autograph and signed note by J.H. Griffin on the second page indicates that the sale was recorded in the Liberty County records on 2 May 1841.
