At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Writes he has not gotten a response to any of the letters he wrote to Howard Hager, and he would appreciate Mrs. Ogden's suggesting that Hager respond to them. He has been through the past few battles and has come out safely. Comments that if he gets wounded, he plans on getting back into "Old Broad and Cherry." He concludes by giving his thanks and respects to all. Includes an embossed seal in the upper left hand corner.
