Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Complains about the dishonesty among the men in the army. Mentions getting together with some of his old comrades. Informs Ogden that an unidentified person named Eaton is attempting to form a Volunteer company in Chatfield. Also speaks of the upcoming election, which he hopes Abraham Lincoln will win. Includes an embossed seal in the upper left hand corner. Envelope includes a three cent stamp.
