At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Writes his health has not improved since he left the hospital. Says his left arm is powerless, but he hopes to regain its strength soon. He will be writing to the other ladies of the Broad and Cherry Hospital when he gets the chance. Includes an embossed seal in the upper left hand corner.
