Writes from Camp Chemung known as Elmira. He is glad that both Ogden and her family are healthy after the "rebel raid in Pa." His regiment has been stationed in Vermont, guarding Rebel prisoners, for the last few months. Says plans to send the regiment to Washington fell through because the State militia detailed to take over guard duty consisted mainly of young boys incapable of controlling the prisoners. Explains that there are 8,000 prisoners or more being housed in his regiment's old barracks. Informs Ogden that the regiment will probably stay in Vermont because the time is almost over for many of the boys. Envelope includes a three cent stamp.

The copyright law of the United States (title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement.
