At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Miller's company is packed up and expects to move any time now but he is not sure of their destination. He suspects that Wilmor has fallen for the "the tender looks and pleasant actions of that blue eyed lass with the curls who lives in Wilkinsburgh." Miller asserts that he is ready to keep on fighting for the "the rebs have got to knock under if it takes all the men and money in the north to do it with."
