At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Discussing who should be appointed in charge of the post office in Canandaigua. Believes Mr. Heartnell, who has just won the office, does not deserve it, and is not supported by the village. Reccomends Mr. Gooding for the position, and requests Hobart's help in getting him into office.
