At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Discusses his concern that the Federalists in his town plan to change the name of his post office to Middleborough 4 Corners and asks Hobart to stop it. Also discusses the history of his post office, explains the problems that a name change will cause, and discusses postal appointments.
