At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Wishes Hobart a safe trip to England. Informs him that he sent two packages, one to Colonel Lyman and the other to Cushing Mitchell, with the purpose of obtaining a discharge for Mitchell. Asks that if Aaron happens to see Lyman, if he would assure him that Mitchell is an American.
