At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Perkins signs as Lieutenant Colonel of the 19th Regiment. Signed by 2nd Lieutenants James A. Arbuthnot and Henry S. Clapp. Reports that Company [illegible, possibly I or J] was led by Captain Frank Holsinger. Includes signatures (or marks) of and information regarding payment to soldiers of Company [illegible, possibly I or J] between October and December 1864. States that the Company was paid 24 March 1865.
