At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

The Yankees have placed at least 32 torpedoes, consisting of common beer barrels containing between 600 and 700 pounds of gun powder, in Charleston Harbor. An act providing for retired Confederate officers, and matters of conscription. Wallpaper has gray and green acorn pattern.
