At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

One long sheet. Prints a Tennessee Confederate call to arms and secession published when Tennessee was attempting to secede from the Union. The lower half of this broadside includes a section entitled "Can Tennessee Stand Alone?," which asks the question of whether Tennessee should stay joined to the Confederate states, or attempt to stand alone as a individual, separate nation.
