Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

This newspaper is from the Southern Confederacy and includes main articles on How to Meet Lincoln's Army, The Louisville Democrat on Lincoln's Proclamation, a poem about the last silver dollar, Commentary on the Passage of the Emancipation Proclamation, and The Yankees in Tennessee. Newspaper is badly ripped across the middle of both pages.
