Written by former Major General Patterson, who commanded the Department of Pennsylvania from April-August 1861. This book is a weak defense of his actions in the 1861 campaign in the Shenandoah Valley. Published by John Campbell in Philadelphia. Dedicated to the men under his command during the 1861 campaign. Inscribed to "Doctor Reagles US Army, with the respectful Compliments of R Patterson." Map of the Shenandoah/Harper's Ferry region opposite the title page. Index on pages 121-128.
