The name "John Burns" is penciled in on the mount next to the printed title to indicate that he is the "old patriot" in question. View of John Burns's house, which is no longer standing, and surrounding buildings. Very sharp and clear view of the farm buildings. Note the decorative window coverings. The fence has been dismantled and the property shows signs of the battle. Notation on verso: "8912." William Frassanito writes of Burns's involvement in the Battle of Gettysburg in "Gettysburg: A Journey in Time," and provides an up-close shot of Burns on the porch, p. 84-85, photos I-13a and I-13b.
