Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

A print of a photograph of a wagon. Title from inscription on recto. Wagon is very worn with mud encrusted wheels. Headquarters baggage tent in background along with some buildings. "416" and "O'Sullivan" are written on the back. There is also a faded stamp with some sections made illegible with black marker. Few words can be made out.
