A print of a photograph of High Street, Georgetown. Renamed Wisconsin Avenue in 1895 when Georgetown was brought into line with the rest of Washington, D.C.'s L'Enfant street plan. Crisp image of approximately 15 men posed in front of large building. The building in the immediate foreground has a sign that reads: "P. May's Bakery & Confectionary [sic]." Philip May leased the building at 75 High St. (now 1254 Wisconsin Ave., N.W.) for his bakery from 1853 to 1866. All five buildings visible in the photograph still stand, though there have been changes made to them (75 was extended south and west, for example).
