A print of a photograph of the Washington, DC headquarters of Brigadier General Hardin. Brigadier General Martin D. Hardin put was in command ofthe defenses of Washington from 1864 to the end of the war. He is just left of the tree on the corner, missing the left arm he lost in Confederate guerrilla ambush. The glass of the lamp post on the corner reads "19th Street West." The headquarters was located at the intersection of 19th St. NW and Pennsylvania Ave. The crowd consists mainly of well dressed civilian men and women with a few soldiers. Others can be seen in the windows of the buildings. Inscription on verso: "Gardner XXIX 883."
