The people are identified by numeric notations written in graphite around the image. The numbers correspond to graphite inscription on verso: "1 Miss Annie Van Nechten. 2 Miss Telinghast. 3 William Worth (Brig. Gen. USA) 4 Dudley Olcott 5 Miss Cynthia R. Dexter. 6 [blank] 7 Capt. Hilot USA." Additional ink inscription on verso: "13 John Kingsbury, Albany, NY."
